Why Is America Less Happy Than Ever?

Hello. It's Thursday, 20th Mar, and we're covering World Happiness Report, Segway Massive recall of 220,000 scooters, affordable child care & much more.

U.S. Plummets to Record Low in World Happiness Rankings: What Went Wrong?

The 2025 World Happiness Report reveals a sobering truth: the United States has plummeted to its lowest-ever ranking at 24th, highlighting a worrying trend in the nation’s overall wellbeing. While Finland continues to reign as the happiest country for the eighth consecutive year, Mexico and Costa Rica have made impressive entries into the top 10.

The report underscores the importance of social connections, revealing that increased loneliness—like dining alone—has negatively impacted American happiness, affecting one in four. Moreover, the rise in political polarization and distrust has echoed across the Atlantic, signaling a need for improved communal ties.

Meanwhile, larger family sizes in Mexico and Costa Rica foster stronger social bonds, suggesting a lesson for other nations seeking happiness. This year’s findings stress an essential truth: trust and community play a pivotal role in wellbeing, a sentiment echoed by experts and global trends alike.

The collaborative Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) project has significantly expanded its galaxy map from 6 million to nearly 15 million, enriching our quest for answers.

Scam Warning

Beware! Ross Township Resident Duped Out of $8,000 in Clever Jury Duty Scam

A Ross Township resident fell victim to a devious jury duty scam, losing over $8,000. The scammer, using a spoofed number that appeared to be the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office, claimed the victim had a warrant for failing to appear for jury duty.

The catch? The victim had never received any official notification! Pressured to pay $8,550 in bitcoin to avoid arrest, they complied, unknowingly sending the funds to an account traced back to France's leading cryptocurrency exchange.

Both the Allegheny and Washington County Sheriff’s Offices are warning the public that these scams are on the rise; they emphasized that official communications will never demand payment via phone or cryptomoney.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant, report any suspicious calls, and protect themselves from falling into similar traps.
