Trump to Address Congress, Bitcoin Dive & World's Largest Iceberg

Hello. It's Tuesday, 4th Mar, and we're covering Trump to address congress, the World's Oldest Iceberg on the move, Bitcoin dive & much more.

Trump to Address Congress on Administration’s Agenda

President Donald Trump will deliver a speech before a joint session of Congress on March 4, 2025, outlining his administration’s priorities under the theme “The Renewal of the American Dream.” The address, similar to a State of the Union, will focus on economic policies, trade, immigration, and foreign relations.

Key topics include his administration’s approach to tariffs, energy production, and tax cuts, with potential Medicaid funding reductions to offset tax extensions.

Trump is also expected to address trade tensions with Canada and Mexico and clarify U.S. military support for Ukraine, particularly after suspending aid following a contentious meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The speech, scheduled for 9:00 p.m. EST in the House Chamber, comes amid growing political divides. Democrats will issue a formal response, with Senator Elissa Slotkin delivering remarks. The address will set the tone for Trump’s second term’s domestic and international policies.

World's Largest Iceberg On Collision Course with Remote Penguin Island

Iceberg A23a, the world's largest and oldest iceberg, has run aground near South Georgia Island. This massive iceberg, weighing nearly a trillion tonnes and spanning approximately 3,900 square kilometers, calved from Antarctica's Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf in 1986.

For over three decades, A23a remained stationary, grounded on the seabed in the Weddell Sea. In 2020, it began drifting northward, entering the Antarctic Circumpolar Current. By April 2024, it became trapped in a Taylor column near the South Orkney Islands, causing it to rotate counterclockwise daily.

In December 2024, the iceberg broke free and continued its journey toward South Georgia. Scientists have closely monitored A23a due to concerns about its potential impact on the island's ecosystem, particularly its rich marine life, including penguins and seals.

If the iceberg remains grounded, it could disrupt access to feeding grounds for these animals, reminiscent of a similar event in 2004 that led to significant wildlife losses. Experts anticipate that warmer waters and wave action will eventually break A23a into smaller fragments, which will melt before reaching the shore, potentially releasing nutrients that could benefit the local marine ecosystem.

Trump's New Tariffs Expected to Raise Prices

President Donald Trump has imposed new tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China, aiming to protect domestic industries but potentially driving up consumer prices. The tariffs include a 25% levy on Canadian and Mexican imports and a 20% tariff on Chinese goods.

Key affected products include oil, vehicles, dairy, and produce from Canada; avocados, beer, and automotive parts from Mexico; and electronics, appliances, and footwear from China. Economists predict these tariffs could increase inflation by 0.7% to 1.2% and slow GDP growth by 0.6 percentage points.

Businesses now face the choice of absorbing costs, shifting supply chains, or passing expenses onto consumers. Meanwhile, Canada, China, and Mexico are considering retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods, further escalating trade tensions.

As the impact unfolds, consumers should prepare for higher prices on everyday essentials and possible job market disruptions in affected industries.
